Practical Advice & Visual Guides

Key requirements explained step-by-step with authentic reference images.

1. Passport Validity & Electronic Visa (e-VoA) Immigration Requirement

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival and contain at least two empty pages.

  • Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA): Nationals from nearly 100 countries can obtain an e-VoA (Category B1/B2, valid for 30 days) in advance through the official portal: molina.imigrasi.go.id.
  • Standard Fee: IDR 500,000 (approx. USD $32), payable securely via Visa, Mastercard, or JCB online.
  • Autogate Access: Delegates carrying e-passports with an approved e-VoA can use the biometric automated immigration gates at Terminal 3 for swift clearance.
  • Official Invitation: For institutional invitation letters required for visa authorization, contact delegates@globaldiamantoa.id.

2. Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD) Online Registration

Physical paper customs declarations are no longer used. All arriving international passengers must submit an online declaration via the official Directorate General of Customs portal (ecd.beacukai.go.id).

  • The form can be submitted up to 72 hours prior to boarding your flight.
  • Upon submission, a QR code is generated. Take a screenshot or save the PDF on your smartphone.
  • Scan this QR code at the customs barrier immediately after collecting your baggage. One QR code is valid for an entire traveling family or delegation group traveling on one itinerary.

3. Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), Banknotes & ATMs Currency Guide

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), written as “Rp”. Denominations range from Rp 1.000 to Rp 100.000 banknotes.

  • Banknote Denominations: Rp 100.000 (red), Rp 50.000 (blue), Rp 20.000 (green), Rp 10.000 (purple), Rp 5.000 (brown), Rp 2.000 (grey), and Rp 1.000 (yellow).
  • ATMs: Major banks (BCA, Mandiri, BNI, BRI) operate reliable ATMs across the airport and throughout Central Jakarta that accept Visa and Mastercard.
  • Cash Handling: Keep lower denomination bills (Rp 10.000, Rp 20.000, Rp 50.000) for taxi tips, bottled water, and local snacks. When exchanging foreign currency, ensure physical notes are crisp and uncreased.

Indonesia operates on a standard voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz. Sockets accept European-style two-round-pin plugs.

  • Compatible Plugs: Type C (two ungrounded round prongs) and Type F (Schuko plug with two grounding clips on the sides).
  • Adapters: Delegates traveling from countries using Type A/B (USA, Japan, Canada) or Type G (UK, Singapore, Malaysia) will need a universal adapter.
  • Venue Facilities: Charging hubs throughout Perpusnas conference floors and hotels are fitted with Type C and F wall outlets.

5. Mobile Data, Tourist SIM & eSIM Setup 4G / 5G Connectivity

Mobile data connectivity in Central Jakarta is stable and fast across all national cellular providers.

  • eSIM (Recommended): Installing an international travel eSIM before flying allows instant data connectivity the moment your plane lands without physical queueing.
  • Airport Physical SIM: If purchasing a physical SIM card, visit official operator kiosks (Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, or XL Axiata) inside the Terminal 3 arrivals concourse. Bring your passport for mandatory national IMEI registration. Packages cost approximately Rp 150.000–Rp 250.000 (USD $10–$16) for 25–50 GB.

6. Health, Hydration & Local Norms Good to Know

Jakarta is welcoming, hospitable, and dynamic. A few simple practices ensure a comfortable stay:

  • Drinking Water: Tap water is not potable. Always drink bottled mineral water (such as Aqua or Pristine) or purified water dispensers provided at Perpusnas.
  • Greeting Etiquette: A gentle handshake accompanied by a polite nod is standard business etiquette. Use your right hand when passing business cards, documents, or payments.
  • Emergency Hotline: Integrated National Emergency: 112 • Ambulance: 118 • Police: 110 • Jakarta Tourist Police: (021) 523 4555.
